New vistas for tribal people

A home to tribal communities in Kerala, En Ooru Tribal Heritage Village district is a unique platform in India to explore tribal culture and tradition. The village, designed to highlight tribal architecture and indigenous culture, showcases the life of tribal communities and exhibits tribal products. Established on 25 acres of land previously owned by Priyadarshini Tea Estate (Mananthavady Tea Plantation Co-operative Society) has emerged as the face of Wayanad. Collaborating with culinary experts from the tribal communities, the village serves traditional tribal food through the cafeteria helping the people experience the cuisine of the tribal people.

Tribal
Market

Natti or tribal agriculture follows a unique culture. Millets produced by the tribal farmers, Wild Honey and other Forest products procured by tribal people, Kambalam, Ambum Villum (Bow and Arrow) Tribal Artefacts and other products get a well-organised marketplace inside the Village where the Government has set up a tribal market. The tribal market supports the community to enjoy the brisk sale of products supporting the Tribal Economy. Tourists can pick bamboo products, cane products, indigenous medicines, medicinal plants and food from the market. To catch the eyes of the visitors, craftsmen from the community perform their craft skills live at their stalls. It is the finest platform to learn about Aadivasis and interact with the members of the community.

Air Theatre

Different tribes of Kerala have their art forms. The open-air theatre at En Ooru is the venue to stage tribal art forms for visitors. Researchers and tourists can watch and enjoy the art forms of the Kurichya Tribe, Kuruma Tribe, Adiya Tribe, Hill Pulaya Tribe, Aranadan Tribe, Irular, Kadar, Kanikkaran, Kattunaykan, Kochuvelan, Koraga, Kurumba, Malai Arayan, Malai Pandaram, Vedan, Mannan, Maratti, Muthuvan, Paniyan, Ulladan, Urali Kuruma, Mala Vettuvan, Then Kurumbam, Mavilan, Cholanayikkan and Karimpalan tribes. They perform Thudi Thalam, Mavilan Pattu, Tribal Archery, Thudi and a variety of art forms. The key intention behind the setting up of the Open-Air Theatre is to preserve the tribal art forms and popularise the art forms.

Cuisines are prepared from forest plants and edible tubers. The cafeteria runs to spread the flavours of the tribal community and also serves other dishes popular in Kerala. Apart from enjoying the taste of Wayanad, the visitors also get an opportunity to financially support the tribal population by accepting their cuisines. Centre

Once you reach En Ooru, you will get comprehensive assistance from our team members. We have a heritage village management team functioning in our facilitation centre. The centre, which also functions as the amenity centre for visitors, guarantees guidance for touring the place. Tourists can approach our team members for submitting their grievances if any. The centre will also extend support for researchers who want to interact with the people and know more about the community.

Warehouse

En Ooru village provides extensive support to tribal people engaging in the functioning of the heritage village. A warehouse has been constructed in the village to safely store the products and materials of tribal beneficiaries of the project. The warehouse ensures support to craftsmen, culinary experts and others who need to store their products for running the stalls. En Ooru offers all amenities essential for the tribal community members and visitors.
